Mad Hatter's Look Done 3 Ways

The Mad Hatter is an incredibly eclectic, eccentric, completely bonkers character from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. His style is half of his insanity. To wear this look, you need lots of bright, crazy colors, but in order to keep it wearable, tone the look down with only one pattern, instead of mixing many different ones like the Mad Hatter does.

If you work in an office setting, especially one like mine that frowns upon anything that has to do with skeletons, bats, or Halloween, everything you wear has to pass your screening test. This look is eclectic and out there, but still work appropriate because of the coordinating colors and the simple, adorable accessories. The Mad Hatter, if he had a dress code, would definitely wear those quirky, and just a little bit snarky, 'What?' and 'Why?' pins on his coat.

It's your day off? Then go all out! These colors are vivid and intense, but they blend beautifully because the color scheme is mainly monochromatic. You still want to maintain a wearable street style, because walking around in a costume is not that cool.

Dressing for formal events can be tricking. You don't want to sacrifice your personal style, but these events aren't the place to be going crazy with hats and jewelry and crazy patterns. You want to have an eclectic look without to much craziness. This outfit is definitely that. This outfit is definitely unusual and unique, but appropriate for any social gathering you might have.

If you love the Mad Hatter's look and want to have that kind of style, go with Andrew Lee Potts' Hatter's version. His style is rugged and handsome, and very wearable for any guy. The natural, woodsy color scheme is more attractive for a guy than bright, crazy colors, and it's easier to mix prints and patterns with a natural color scheme.

3 Ways to Wear Alice's Look

Alice was a fun, adventurous young girl with an adorably ladylike style. Channeling her style today, especially with the 'vintage' trend being so popular, is not hard at all. I've complied 3 looks I think a modern Alice would wear for work, play, and formal events.

Alice at Work:

The sweet details of the blouse and skirt work together to make the shoes and bag more feminine. And of course the necklace is decorated with delicate roses, because Alice would much rather be running in a garden all day then sitting at her desk filing papers.

Playful Alice:

Alice in the movies wore a dress in Wonderland, but I think she would've preferred to wear skinny jeans. Skinny jeans wouldn't get in the way when climbing down rabbit holes or playing croquet with an angry queen. The cameo necklace has a romantic feel to it, to emphasis the ruffle top, and those flats are so adorable! Chic without trying to hard.

Alice would wear something sweet to her formal events, something flirty without sacrificing comfort or modesty. This skirt and blouse ensemble does exactly that. The accessories continue the girlishness but don't overwhelm the outfit with too many frills or ruffles, because the heels have enough masculinity to keep everything toned down.

What if Alice's brother Alex had been the one to fall into that rabbit hole? Here's how to channel Alice's look as a guy. The black and white converse continue the black and white shoe theme, and the scribbles give it a child-like playfulness. The gray skinny jeans are good, basic bottoms that as just as neutral as black, but look nicer with the light blues. The gold watch is important for keeping up with the rabbit, and the rabbit/skull necklace? Very cool.

My time 'off' and what it showed me.

I've taken quite a break from this blog. I wanted to find a direction, a point, for it to have that I loved and felt comfortable blogging about on a regular bases. I've gotten way to busy to create a D.I.Y. blog, since I know work 3 jobs and have a dog and a cat to take care of, along with spending time with the Monsieur, the Dummy, and Cookies. So after much pondering, and much web surfing for Alice in Wonderland inspired fashion, I've decided that the choice was pretty obvious.
I love love love love LOVE Alice in Wonderland. Unfortunately the internet world only spent time on it when Tim Burton's film was about to be released. That's.....not enough for me. I've always loved the novel and been incredibly inspired by it and having only a couple months of Alice in Wonderland bliss doesn't work for me. So now, Bel Amour will become an Alice in Wonderland fashion inspiration blog! And I don't have to change the name or design of my blog either. Yay!

Direction

This blog, though very fun, has honestly no direction. And I'd love to be writing a blog that actually has a point to it. So I've been thinking, about things I really like and things I know how to do well. And I've thought of a couple things: I love thrift store shopping. I love DIYing. I love customizing clothes that I bought super cheap and making them my own beautiful creations. So I can blog about it!
What do you guys think? Yay or nay?

Wow.

It's been forever since my last post. (Actually it's been 2 months and 9 days but who's counting :])
What have I been doing with all my time? Opening up my Etsy shop, coming up with a direction for my jewelry business, growing artistically, graduating from high school, stuff like that. And I must say I freakin miss blogging! Blogging, Polyvore, and all my 'extras' have been put on hold for long enough I think.
Anyways, what's on for tonight is:

-'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?'

-Customizing a dress with a bunch of random crap.

-Possibly making a t-shirt dress?

-Showering, which is only slightly nice because I really hate wet hair. (Honestly, only Brazilians look good with wet hair. The rest of us just look soggy and a little greasy. Unless you're The Monsieur, in which case you can look anyway at all and still be devastatingly handsome. Plus wet hair gets my pajamas all wet.)

-Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream *I hope I hope I hope!*

Oh, and I just bought a subscription to Teen Vogue magazine. It was $5 for a year subscription which I figured was a pretty good deal. I've been wanting to see if that magazine is any good, guess I'll get my chance in 6 to 8 weeks.

Sparkly Spiders and Skulls

This bracelet is so sparkly! ^_^ It has 2 skull charms on each side and 1 spider charm right in the middle, and each charm measures at 2mm. The bracelet itself is close to 8 inches, so it should hang loosely on your wrist, but not fall off.
